“In a time of constant connection, how did we all become so disconnected?”
Voyage is our largest passion project to date at Draft (formerly JAOPRO). Voyage documents a crew of 16 artists, athletes, musicians, and filmmakers as they put away their cell phones on a 3-week journey by river from East Tennessee to the Gulf of Mexico.
So why take a 3-week river trip? It really boils down to our desire to answer one question: “In a time of constant connection, how did we all become so disconnected?”
In 2014, Voyage was awarded Best Tennessee Film by the Knoxville Film & Music Festival and also received its Audience Award. The film was also screened at Moondance Film Festival in Boulder, Colorado where it finished as a Finalist.
Voyage utilized the Tennessee River and Tenn-Tom waterway which serves as the shortest distance between the Gulf of Mexico and Mid-America. Although this route can be completed much quicker, we chose to stretch this journey over three weeks. This pace offered a chance not only to conserve fuel, but also gain perspective and more fully absorb our surroundings each day.
The characters we met along the way were more interesting than any of us could have imagined and truly helped propel our storyline in a direction that we had only dreamed.
We were incredibly grateful to premiere to a sold-out audience in 2014 at the Historic Bijou Theatre. One of our featured artists, Judah & The Lion, opened the night up with their blend of folk-hop style music which set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Presenting Sponsors Malibu Boats & Axis Wake Research helped make the night even more special by hosting an after party at the Square Room on Market Square in downtown Knoxville. SweetWater Brew, another film sponsor, kept the good times flowing all night while our other sponsors (including Mountain Khakis, ORCA Coolers, ENO Hammocks, Klean Kanteen, PTM Edge, Scenic Helicopter Tours, Showcase Photo & Video, Sierra Dawn, and the WakeShop) helped in our silent auction giveaway!
Voyage was released on iTunes, Blu-ray, and DVD after the premiere and has seen a good amount of retail success, including making it to #11 on the iTunes documentary charts.
